Torch-On Roofing is a specialised application of two plies of Modified Bitumen Membrane, each being around 3–4mm thick. The first layer is secured either mechanically with screws, washers, or with an adhesive. The top layer has the same composition as the bottom ply, except that it has a granulated surface to provide additional protection against fluctuating temperatures, harsh UV rays, rain and snow. Each layer consists of a fusible plastic layer which enables the two plies to fuse together. This fusible layer is activated by melting them with a torch. This style is known for being incredibly durable, affordable, easy and quick to apply by a professional. It can also be used on a wide range of roofing surfaces, and remains functional for roughly 25 years.

Bitumen Roofing is constructed on large portion of commercial and domestic roofing in Ireland today, as this type of application has a strong record of reliability and provide a very cost effective roofing solution. Made from asphalt and a variety of modifiers and solvents, Bitumen can be applied in a heat application process where the seams are heated to melt the asphalt together and create a seal, or there is a cold-applied adhesive application process.
